Cuvillier family papers, 1810-1877.

This collection consists of professional and military certificates of the Cuvillier family of New Orleans, La. On many of these documents, the family name was alternately spelled: Cuvellier. One of the certificates in the collection is for Charles Harrod. Included are documents issued and signed by several governors and secretaries of state, including William Charles Cole Claiborne, Charles Gayarré, and George F. Shepley.

William C. C. Claiborne practiced law in Tennessee and became judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee in 1796. He became governor of the Territory of Mississippi in 1801 and was appointed to receive Louisiana from France in 1803.
